Al Qaeda’s Number Three is Killed in Afghanistan Al-Qaeda has confirmed that its number three was killed in Afghanistan. Mustafa al-Yazid is believed to have been killed last week is a air strike according to information published on an al-Qaeda web site. They claimed that some of his family members were killed also.
Al-Yazid was very close to Osama bin Laden and had his hand in a wide variety of operational procedures and decisions. He is believed to have been the Chief Financial Officer for al-Qaeda among other duties. His death was also confirmed by tribal elders and other Taliban members. He was also a founding member of al-Qaeda. This has got to be a crippling blow to al-Qaeda. I don’t know how the US is gathering the intelligence to take out the top leaders but each time we do it scores a significant psychological and propaganda victory for us.
The military drone has definitely proved its worth in this war, but I’m not sure if they are the only or the biggest source of all of the killer intelligence that our custom military ring customers seem to be getting. The drone has been invaluable because it has served as such a tremendous force multiplier.
