General McChrystal has Resigned as Chief General Stanley McChrystal who is the commander of US forces in Afghanistan has verbally offered his resignation after he made some disparaging remarks about Vice President Biden and other senior officials in the Obama administration.
Now I’m sure that you all are just itching to find out what the military ring man has to say about this incident and here it is: General McChrystal did the right thing when he offered his resignation. The comments showed a lack of judgement on his part and he knows it. He is obviously at odds with the Obama administration but as a professional Officer in the US military he should never under any circumstances critisize his superiors. It is not conduicive to the discipline and good order of the US armed forces. When Colon Powell was at odds with things that he saw done in the Bush administration he simply chose to go elsewhere. I have never heard of him making any type of disparaging remarks about Vice President Cheney.
Noe there are those of you out there who will say that he is an American and has freedom of speech, well yes he does but only as long as it is not detrimental to the discipline and good order of the armed forces. We fight to give freedom of speech to our countrymen. In the process of guaranteeing that free speech it becomes necessary for us to give up our rights.
General McChrtstal was out of line with his remarks and he knows it was a mistake. He was honorable enough to resign when he realized his mistake. Now grasshopper, I can see the wheels in your head turning. You are saying that troops make off colored remarks all of the time about their chain of command. Well this is true but you don’t hear about these remarks being made to the press. They are to be made in the company of your peers. We all do it. I did and I have no regrets but I never would have made disparaging comments about my commander in chief to the press. Would you?
