The Taliban Offers to Exchange the Body of a Serviceman for Prisoners Supposedly the Taliban has offered to exchange the body of a Navy serviceman for prisoners who were captured in an ambush. They have reported that the two were ambushed when the drove the vehicle that they were in into a Taliban stonghold by mistake. Now if the Taliban did offer a prisoner exchange I don’t know what kind of math that they were using. One dead body does not equate to live prisoners, I don’t care how you divide it.
The two may have gotten lost when they took a turn on a good paved road which they could have mistaken for the main road. In this case the main road was not in good condition. What most Americans don’t realize is that sometimes paved roads are hard to find in other countries. I can see how they could have made this mistake. You would naturally assume that the main road is the good one.
The US and NATO have verified that the two went missing and a search is underway. They have been sending out patrols, setting out fliers, and are offering a $20,000.00 reward for information leading to their rescue. Afghan officials say thet the two did not inform them in advance that they would be travelling through the area. I would assume that since these two were Navy ring personnel that they were SEALs, but the Navy has not identified the type of unit that they were in.
The biggest question is why were they out alone? This is a mystery to me since I am a military man and I know that things are not usually done that way. Now I can be wrong but it seems to me that these two men were on some kind of mission of their own. Maybe it was work related and they thought that they could quickly take care of business and return. Sometimes its when things seem like they will be easy that you encounter your biggest problems.
