The P-8A Poseidon is the newest version of the aircraft formerly known as the Multimission Maritime Aircraft, or MMA. This aircraft replaces the P-3C Orion as a long range, anti submarine warfare, anti surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft. With all of that being said you can see why the term multimission comes into play.
Some of the weapons that this aircraft can carry are torpedoes, depth charges, and anti- ship missiles. This kind of gives you an idea of how useful this bad boy will be dosen't it. The Navy sems to be getting an awful lot of bang for the buck on this one. Lets just hope that it lives up to the high expectations.
