A Tribute to Darren James LaBonteDarren James LaBonte was one of the five CIA agents killed in Afghanistan several months back when a man who they thought was an informant donned a suicide vest and blew himself up in their presence. The bomber had obviously given then some information before the suicide attack in order to gain their confidence and get them to let their guard down. There were five CIA agents killed in the attack along with two security personnel and the Jordanian handler for the informant.
Agent LaBonte’s father is an ex Navy SEAL and the agent had served in the US Army Rangers. He was in the 75th Ranger Regiment which is stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah Georgia. I would frequently come into contact with tmembers of that unit in my retail store and many of them would come in and design custom US Army Ranger rings with me. I didn’t have the priviledge of doing a ring for Mr LaBonte because I would have remembered the name, but I will bet money that I met him at one time or another, either on Hunter or Fort Stewart GA.
I was just reading for research to do this post and ran across some information on him. I want to send a shout out to all of his family members today and thank them for his service to our country.
