The New Afghan Commission Frees Taliban Suspects

The New Afghan Commission Frees Taliban Suspects This may be too risky of a maneuver by Afghan President Hamid Karzai, but if it works he will look good in the eyes of the world. I have personally understood the things that he is trying to do and I think that he has made some brilliant diplomatic moves. He is walking on a tightrope in attempting to deal with the current situation in his country and he does not have the luxury of being able to make wrong moves.

The goverment commission which he personally appointed has freed a number of suspected Taliban fighters and are planning to free more than two dozen more shortly. They may eventually free thousands of Taliban fighters which can very easily backfire on him if he is not extremely careful.

I understand the psychology behind this policy. He needs to unify the people of Afghanistan. He can’t afford to leave the Taliban feeling alienated after this war is over. There numbers are too many to ignore. On the other hand he needs to remember that their ultimate goal is to take control of the country. That won’t change no matter how you treat them. Hopefully he isn’t giving up too much too fast.

Many of our military ring customers have fought and died in order to rid his country of terrorists. It would be a grave tragedy if he gave up the farm. We will definitely continue to keep an eye on this as best as we can.
