There are many different schools of leadership and many different types
of leaders. A true leader in my opinion is one who knows how to
motivate people to want to do the job. If a leader always forces
followers to perform I don’t consider them a true leader. Now
there are many people who get fantastic results using force but
what happens when they are not there. A true leader will
develop people and cause them to want to do more.
A true leader must display overwhelming enthuasiasm. Followers will
not perform if he doesn’t. They will gladly do about 20% of what you
will. They must see that you are willing and able to perform.
A true leader must know how to get along with people. You can’t get
caught up in the petty arguements and disagreements that people
sometimes allow to come between them. In this sense you must have a
form of aloofness yet you must be one of the group. A true leader
knows how to walk that line.
People will not follow a leader who does not display confidence.
People need to know that you are capable of taking them to the place
where they need to go. You must have ability to go along with that
confidence. Ability gives you the right to lead.
Good leaders have the wisdom to know how to use different people in
different situations you must know how to match abilities with tasks.
These are just a few of the tangible chacteristics that make good
leaders. Leadership can’t be nailed down to a specific formula. What
works in one type of situation may not work in another.
