Now before we continues let me clean up the term “Power of Persuasion” for you. You don’t have to be a con artist to persuade people. Nor do you have to be a fast talker or a manipulator. Unfortunately many people who have mastered the art of persuasion have internalized these traits also. We normally see some degree of each of these traits in a persuasive person, but this is not what I advocate here.
As a leader I learned that the best way to get people to do what you want is to get them to buy into your program. You hear this term used by college and professional football coaches all of the time. When you actually analyze what they are saying you can rephrase it this way. Both the coach and the player want to win. The coach is the expert and the player is the muscle in the plan. When the coach can convince the player that in order for both of us to get what we want you have to do it this way then the player has bought into the coaches plan. He doesn’t have to beat him across the head to get him to buy in and he doesn’t have to make him perform against his will. He simply has to show they player that if he listens he can get what he wants from the situation.
You have to make the person want to follow to be the best leader that you can be. Have you seen the child and mother in a public place where the mother threatens the child as convincingly as she can but the child stubbornly continues to resist. What you have witnessed is the parent’s attempt to control the child by force. This is unnatural to humans and we will fight back when we perceive that we are being forced to do something. When the follower is convinced that it is in his or her own interest to do what you want you become more effective as a leader.
Have you ever noticed how scam artists operate? In order for the scam to work they have to first convince you that you will get something more out of the deal when you follow the course of action that they have outlined for you. People in essence deceive themselves when they are scammed. That’s what it takes for the scam to work. Now let me say again that I am not advocating scamming anyone but I am using this example to explain my point.
You must be a good listener in order to be a good leader. Listen to what the person, follower, or customer is saying but determine what they really want. Many times the person won’t be able to express it clearly because they aren’t sure. If you carefully analyze their statements you will be able to determine what it is that they really want.
After you have gotten into their mind so to speak you need to formulate a plan to help them get to where they want to go. Now if you can tie their desired destination in with your own plans you will be able to persuade them to buy into your program.
People resent it when you try to force them to buy into your plan so you are not attempting to manipulate them. You are attempting to help them. If they are unclear in their own minds you will need to state what they want to them, don’t tell them what they want just phrase what you think that they are saying to them. North Korea Promises a Physical Response to our Drills There is another calamity in addition to the Gulf oil spill. Just like the oil has flowed into the Gulf of Mexico from the damaged oil well diarrhea continues to flow from the mouths of North Korea’s leaders. The latest is their promise that the joint US, South Korean naval exercise which is being conducted now will result in a physical confrontation. Even they can’t believe that because they have to know that any provocation to us would result in them being twisted like a pretzel.
I don’t know how or why the Chinese and the Russians put up with them but I would have given them an emena a long time ago. It is so obvious that their leadership is out of touch with reality by the off centered remarks that they make. I am sure that right about now the South Korean military would love an excuse to kick some North Korean butt. If I were the North Koreans I would take advantage of the fact that I was able to get a free shot in on the South Korean navy and lay low.

I have worked with them before and they kick butt and take names. they are deadly serious about defending their country and they will not tolerate any slack when it comes down to doing so. North Korea Warns that Exercises will Threaten Security The North Korean government warned the US and South Korea that they need to call off their scheduled military exercise this weekend because it places the region in danger.
Now my precious military ring customer let me say this to you. It would be a grave mistake for the US or South Korea to even answer this rambling lunacy. Doing so would glorify it and make the North Koreans not look like the aggressors in this situation. It doesn’t deserve a response. As a matter of fact if I were the Chinese I would fire them from being my ally for having a constant, chronic case of diarrhea of the mouth.
The problem that makes them bold is that the United Nations was too wimpy to assign the blame on them for sinking the Cheonan although the whole world knows that they did.
Now my custom military ring customers let me ask you this; What would the world and the UN say if we had sank a North Korean Naval vessel? I just don’t get it. You had better believe that they would have their panties in a serious bunch. Its a good thing that I’m not commander in chief because I would blow up the North Koreans and point my missiles at the United Nations and dare them to say anything.

Biden Claims that he Wasn’t Bothered by McChrystal’s Comments Our Vice President claims that he wasn’t really bothered by General McChrystal’s negative remarks about him to Rolling Stone magazine but I don’t believe it. There’s not a man or woman in the world who wouldn’t have been upset behind those remarks. Mr Biden says that he didn’t view the remarks as being personal and they probably weren’t, but it probably did tick him off. Now the backdoor political catfighting that I remember seeing when I was in the military was that when you were responsible for wrecking someones career you would hide the hands that threw the rock by pretending to like the person that you just backstabbed. If the remarks didn’t bother our VP why is he talking about them now?

The Taliban’s Leader Urges Attacks on Women and Children The de facto leader of the Taliban has ordered his field commanders to begin to target women and children who assist the US and NATO allies in their war effort. He told them to capture and kill the women and to also target the other Afghan civilians who work either for or with our allies.
This is a reversal of his previous stance where he ordered his soldiers to be careful when they targeted their victims. Now those of you who know me know exactly where I am getting ready to go right now. I can’t understand for the life of me why no one will complain about the Taliban using the tactics that they do when all concerned cry hard and long when we accidentally harm innocents. Don’t get me wrong folks, it is a terrible thing when we or anybody else kill innocent civilians,but the difference is that we don’t do it on purpose.
Our rules of engagement are more lenient on Taliban fighters than the Taliban is on civilians. We treat enemy combatants with more respect than they give innocents.

This acronym stands for Robotic Battlefield Uniform. This uniform is essentially an exoskeleton which will utilize mechanical hydraulics, and computer electronics to give the individual soldier the ability to carry hundreds of pounds of equipment as though it were nothing. This would certainly enhance the capabilities of every small infantry type unit in the military.
You might have heard of light forces using the term “Having to hump equipment.” Think about how light forces have to carry all of their food, water, ammunition, first aid, weapons, specialized equipment, and spare clothing with them on the battlefield. Now think about how they may have to do so in extreme weather and terrain. Imagine what it is like having to walk through desert sand, or climb mountainous rocky terrain in 130 degree heat loaded down with stuff that you need to do your job. Now imagine doing this while wearing a helmet and flak vest and carrying a machine gun. You just have to do it a few times to really get an appreciation of it. Once you do you will intimately appreciate every piece of equipment that I have just mentioned.
I can see how this will greatly benefit our Special Operators who have to perform long range reconnaissance missions. They have to know how to live off of the land because they just can’t always carry all of the food that they need. Anything that works is subject to breaking down and that is the question with me. What if this uniform malfunctions in the field? They would have to leave vital equipment behind. Doing so would compromise the operation because the enemy would know that they were in the area.
You might have heard of light forces using the term “Having to hump equipment.” Think about how light forces have to carry all of their food, water, ammunition, first aid, weapons, specialized equipment, and spare clothing with them on the battlefield. Now think about how they may have to do so in extreme weather and terrain. US National Guard Troops will Deploy to the Border
US National Guard Troops will Deploy to the BorderJuly 21, 2010 posted by OldWarrioradd comment | read comments (0) The United States will deploy National Guard Troops to the border with Mexico to aid with it’s control. The troops will begin to deploy on the first of August and will assist the US Border Patrol with the interdiction of smugglers, and illegal immigrants. They will be armed but will only be able to use their weapons in self defense. State governments have complained that this will not be enough to control the border but the federal response is that states are welcome to send their own troops at their own expense.
There is a rash of drug related violence along the borders. The drug cartels are growing more openly violent and bold in their profession. The troops will not be sent to serve as a police force but maybe their presence will have a dampening effect. I believe that once the smugglers and immigrants realize that they won’t be fired on they will become that much bolder.
The US has also recently began to use drones to assist in border control efforts. Our National Guard ring customers will also be joined by additional customs agents in this effort.

of his or her own drum. He or she will not be held to the ground by
traditional thinking. This type person may not do well in some types
of jobs. Let me give you an example. I once had an employee who I was about
to fire because she wanted to argue about every task that I assigned
her. I realized that the problem was not really her but I had to learn to
communicate with her a lot differently than I did with the last person
who had her job.
I began to give her the results that I wanted rather than attempting to
make her adhere to a certain process. It worked like a charm. She was
more than capable to think her way through problems that would stump
the average employee. She was the best employee that I ever had in that
position. Now I don’t even tell her which our operating system changes.
She has never failed to figure it out on her own and adapt to the

The Hawaiian National Guard gets the F-22

The 199th is the first National Guard unit to receive the F-22.
the F-22 will greatly enhance the units capabilities for conducting future warfare. I don’t know how you know about the F-22 but it gets my highest rating as a certified Bad Mama Jamma. The F-22 is the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world. It can successfully engage four enemy aircraft at the same time. It also employs advanced stealth technology. It’s primary use is as a fighter.

Secretary of State Clinton Strokes the Pakistanis
Secretary of State Clinton Strokes the Pakistanis US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is touring South Asia in an effort to shore up support for our war in Afghanistan. I believe that this is also an attempt to shore up damage done by General McChrystal with his now popular negative remarks about the war. I say this because she is also stressing that we fight a united effort just as all of the other government officials who have visited that area in the last month have done.
She has also assured the Pakistanis that the US is in the war for the long haul. One of the reasons that Pakistani support may be a little weak is that they know that they will have to live with the Taliban long after we are gone. She is also offering them more money in the form of aid. Throwing money at them will not work. They need to know that we are capable of defeating the Taliban and that we will always be there for them.
Our Operation Enduring Freedom Ring customers who are giving their best efforts fighting this war deserve all of the help that they can get from the Pakistanis along with every other ally that we have. I have to applaud her efforts but the money part has never worked and I don’t think that it is the way to go in this situation.

Three British Soldiers are Killed by an Afghan Policeman
Three British Soldiers are Killed by an Afghan Policeman Three British soldiers were killed by an Afghan Police Officer when he fired an RPG into a room that they were using as a command center in Afghanistan. The defection of Afghan policemen and was once a major but some positive action by NATO and the US seemed to get it under control. Still at one defector managed to slip through the cracks and cause the deaths.
Our military ring customers who go on combat operations have to worry about the enemy on both sides of the trenches. Many casualties have been caused by these defectors and there is no way to know 100% that the people that you are dealing with are not defectors. How do you watch your back and front at the same time?
A positive thing is that I have not heard any news of such an incident happening in quite a long time so we must have done something right in screening our Afghan allies more carefully. This operation had to be carefully planned by the policeman who pulled it off. President Karzai has apologized to the Brits and efforts are underway to find the soldier responsible. This incident is tragic but let me remind you once again that this is the first time in quite a while that this type incident has occurred.

I for one believe that it is very important to pray and meditate. I normally prefer to wake up early in the morning and devote the first hours of my day to prayer and meditation. It helps me because first of all I want to have fresh new communication with God to start my day. Before I leave the house in the morning I want my mindset to be right. Sometimes life will really hit you with a gut punch out of nowhere. It is at these times that you have to be prepared. A prepared mind will help you to sustain the stresses that life will place on you. You will feel the pressure but when you are mentally prepared it will be much easier to cope with them.
The mind is fresh and clean in the early morning. It has not been assaulted and bombarded with the daily stresses and requirements that life will throw at you. You have not had to deal with difficult people yet, or difficult situations good you can think unpolluted thoughts. I will start the day in prayer and after I have prayed I will take a few minutes and meditate about the day to come.
I personally like to enjoy my daily cup of coffee or hot tea during this time. I like to think through the major events of the day during this time and rehearse them over in my mind. In effect I try to visualize each event. When the time comes to execute that event there is no hindrance or hang-ups. Even when things don’t go according to the plan as they do more often than not the plan appears to be flawlessly executed to those who are not in the know.
One thing that I have learned is to keep a paper and pen handy for note taking. Sometime you will get ideas which will benefit you greatly in your planning, but I have found that many times I will forget them if I don’t jot them down. There are many times that I have come to the point of execution of an event and couldn’t remember exactly what it was that I was planning to do that would have made it so great. Writing a thing down makes it easier to recall later, so even if you forget your notes it won’t be that hard for you to remember.
I also like to meditate in the evening after the work day has come to a close. The best time for me is right after I have eaten the evening meal and taken a shower. Now after the stresses of the day are over I can think very briefly about the broad strokes of the day to come and meditate on the things which didn’t go right from the previous day. It is good to do this while the day’s events are still fresh in my mind. Now is the time to think about how to avoid the problems which I have just faced. I meditate on the causes and attempt to be very objective about them. Be honest with yourself at this time and admit it if you were the problem. Maybe you weren’t the problem but you unknowingly contributed to it. It is very easy to unwitting become a part of the problem. You must be honest with yourself and realize that everything that you do is not 100% correct all of the time.
Once you can be objective evening meditation will help you greatly in terms of self improvement.

Some of Saddam’s Inner Circle has been Transferred
Some of Saddam’s Inner Circle has been Transferred The US is completing its drawdown from Iraq and as one of the last acts many prisoners who we have had in custody are being turned back over to the Iraqi government. The latest batch to be turned over is a bunch of the motley crew who were once known as Saddam Hussein’s innrer circle. Do you remember how they were being caught one by one during Operation Iraqi Freedom? Our military ring customers who were serving in Iraq during that time were given decks of playing cards with their pictures on them. They seemed to fade out of mind after the war but they were quietly being held in custody by the US military.
The chief of this group of Saddam’s thugs who were just turned over is Tariq Aziz. You may remember him during the last days of the war pubicly declaring how the Iraqis had maintained control of the airport. He must have been on his way to wherever he had to go to try to escape as he made that speech.

The Report is that Karzai met with the Haqqani Leader
The Report is that Karzai met with the Haqqani Leader Al Jezeera reported that Afghanistan President Karzai did in fact meet with the Commander of the Haqqani network. Now if anyone would ask me I would say that I think that he is on the right track. Common sense will tell you that there is no sense in trying to wipe out the Taliban because it just never will happen. The area is too big to try to police, there are too many of them, and they just have too much support. As a matter of fact a mindset that says lets kill off the Taliban is wrong. Our mission needs to be redefined in the minds of the American people. It has already been redefined by the Obama administration. we don’t need to see victory as killing everybody off and leaving a pile of dead bodies behind.
In my mind victory would be striking a crippling blow to al-Qaeda, capturing Osama bin Laden, and preventing them from striking here in America on a large scale ever again. To expect anything more than this is just not living in reality.

Yet Another Gary Faulkner Twist
Yet Another Gary Faulkner Twist Gary Faulkner, our famed bin Laden hunter killer is back safe and sound in the United States now but his terrorist hunting trips may not be ended just yet. Mr Faulkner was released without being charged in Pakistan and should consider himself fortunate that he got away unharmed. When he was asked by the press if he intended to go back he hinted that we should wait until the end of August to see.
Well it his life so I won’t say what he should and should not do, but he says that we are going to take care of business. Better him than me.
There is some irony in this situation and it is that the United States has (or claims that it has) been hunting Mr bin Laden ever since the September 2011 terror attacks on the United States. It would be a hoot if Mr Faulkner actually did make some contact. Personally I think that he needs to quit while he’s ahead, but then I can’t tell Mr Faulkner what to do.
